Process of Making the Ceramics

The process of making Benjarong products takes more time and care. Benjarong-styled ceramic products start off as a compound clay that is comprised of materials from all over Thailand. This clay is molded and shaped and left out to dry. Once completely dry, it is baked at 700-800 degrees Celcius. After removed, it is known as a "biscuit". This biscuit is grazed with a special liquid and then sent back to be baked once again, this time at 1300 degrees Celcius. After being baked, it is removed and painted. Sending it back to bake one last time at 800 degrees will complete the process.

The Blue and White-styled products do not required to be baked so often. They begin the same way as the Benjarong products. After the biscuit is taken out from its first baking, it is painted. This process is called "englazing". It is then grazed and sent to bake again at 1300 degrees Celcius. This completes the making of Blue and White products.
